Troy’s Letter: April 26, 2010

26 04 2010

Hey family!!

Guess what?  The church is true!!  Elder Suazo and I had another awesome week.  We had five investigators at church today—and some of their friends, family, and the members that are befriending them.  Long story short, Elder Suazo and I had to find more chairs to bring to the second hour class for the investigators.  There wasn’t enough room in the classroom!  Some people had to stand—haha.  We were so blessed this week.  It was awesome.  Our zone has a goal of ten baptisms this change.  Elder Pitcher, our zone leader, says that he is counting on Elder Suazo and I to help a lot with our zone’s goal, because we have seven investigators with a baptism date for May—haha.

The problem here in Chile is actually getting the people baptized though. It’s easy to extend a date, but the hardest thing is actually getting them in the water.  But we will see.  I have full faith that Elder Suazo and I will have success this change.  This week has been a huge point for me in my mission.  I am beginning to see the changes that are happening in my life and I’m so thankful for this gospel.  During two lessons this week, I felt this joy that I couldn’t even explain.  I have never felt anything like this before in my entire life.  I felt like I was being lifted out of my chair by some unseen force and I just wanted to shout.  I know with all of my heart that the spirit works through us.  Everything that we say is from the Lord and not through us.  I think other people have noticed it, too.  Two weeks ago, Elder MucCullough asked Elder Suazo and I to teach the district how to teach with unity.

Sometimes we will be in lessons and impressions will come to my mind that I had never thought of before.  My companion will then read a scripture that he has never read before.  They are both perfect for the situation.  Elder Suazo and I are soo blessed with the spirit during the lessons.  Our investigators are addicted to the spirit like a drug and can’t wait for us to come back again.

I can’t get over how much I have learned about life in the past five months.  Studying from the scriptures, Preach My Gospel, Jesus the Christ, and the book, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, have changed everything for me.  Thanks for all the letters from home as well.  I love hearing counsel and reading about everything that is going on back home.

Along with all of the spirtual times, come some of the funniest stories and most ridiculous things that have ever happened—haha.  Wow!  I have so many stories—I wish you could all be here to experience them as well.  One tactic that Elder Suazo and I have to save money is to befriend the collectivo drivers—haha.  We have three drivers that pick us up now and take us wherever we want for free:  Pablo, the husband of one of investigators, Brother Zapata, and Mario—someone who we have befriended.  Now we always keep a look out for them whenever we are low on money.  Something awesome that we ate this week was pig legs…and by legs,  I mean pig legs with the skin, hair, and hoofs all still intact.  I didn’t eat much during that lunch—haha.

Some things that I really enjoy doing is teaching English to the members.  There is a sixteen year old kid, Nelson.  Every time he sees me, he takes my Spanish to English translations that I have and refuses to give them back.  Well I am out of time, but I love you all and I will talk to you soon.  I can call for Mother´s Day this month!
